History on Tap | Highest, Fastest, Longest: Lift One

  • Hotel Jerome 330 East Main Street Aspen, CO, 81611 United States (map)

The community is invited to experience the origins of skiing on Aspen Mountain and the history of its landmark lift in a special, free "History on Tap" on January 15th at the Hotel Jerome. Lift One was Aspen’s first true chairlift and the world’s “highest, fastest and longest” lift when it unofficially opened in 1946. The lift, a single chair, took 45 minutes to ride, accessing what would become a world-class ski resort across a mine-riddled peak. Join AHS and guests to explore the history of the chair through a film screening of “Aspen Before Lifts,” recollections from early riders and people who experienced the lift (including Ruthie Brown, Dave Durrance, Cherie Oates, Tom Moore and Greg Poschman), historical photos, and more in the first History on Tap of the winter season. Admission is free, cash bar.
The History on Tap series is generously sponsored by Aspen Brewing
