In The News, October 30, 2018: Ski town may finally get designated ski museum
It’s been more than 20 years since a public vote opened the door to building a designated ski museum in Willoughby Park, near the original site of Aspen lift-served skiing.
But for reasons including the expense of building such a facility and the project’s ties to a previous development that never took flight, the ski museum hasn’t progressed beyond the bunny hill.
That looks to change as the Lift 1A corridor, which includes room for the ski museum in a relocated Skiers Chalet building, continues to take shape. The Tyrolean-style Skiers Chalet hosted generations of guests from the early 1950s until it changed hands in 2004. The motel was closed for about two years afterward, but has since provided housing to a new generation of ski bums. Read more here.
